Scope of Psychology in Nursing - A Narrative Review

ABSTRACT:
Psychology includes many subfields that study human thought and behavior. Some of the important ones include clinical psychology, which focuses on psychology, psychology, which studies psychological processes, and developmental psychology, which studies human development. While psychology studies how people interact in a social environment, there is also psychology in the workplace. These are just a few examples of the diversity in psychology. This makes psychology relevant for understanding human behavior and improving all aspects of life.

INTRODUCTION:
The implications of behavioral medicine, defined as the study of the interaction of behavior with biology and the environment and the use of this knowledge to improve the health and well-being of individuals, families, mental health, communities and citizens. The most important difference between these two professions is that behavioral medicine defines itself as a multidisciplinary field, while mental health is seen as a discipline that deals with psychological damage. In practice, these areas have a lot of impact.
Scope of Psychology:
The scope of Psychology can be divided into pure psychology and applied psychology. Pure psychology studies psychology, abnormal psychology, psychology, parapsychology, geopsychology, physical psychology and experimental psychology. Moreover, the scope of psychology is broad and can be divided into educational psychology, industrial psychology, legal psychology, clinical psychology, military psychology, political psychology and criminal psychology.
Clinical Psychology:
This subfield focuses on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders. Clinical psychologists work with individuals to improve their mental well-being.
Social Psychology:
Social psychologists study how individuals are influenced by others and how they interact within social groups. This field examines topics like attitudes, conformity and interpersonal relationships.
Cognitive Psychology:
Cognitive psychologists investigate mental processes like perception, memory, decision-making, and problem-solving. They explore how the mind processes information.
Developmental Psychology:
This area studies human development across the lifespan, from infancy to old age. It looks at physical, emotional, cognitive, and social development.
Educational Psychology:
Educational psychologists focus on learning and teaching processes, aiming to enhance educational methods and outcomes.
Industrial-Organizational Psychology:
I-O psychologists work in business and organizational settings to improve workplace productivity, employee well-being, and leadership.
Health Psychology:
Health psychologists examine the relationship between psychological factors and physical health. They may help individuals manage stress or promote healthy behaviors.
Forensic Psychology:
Forensic psychologists apply their expertise to legal and criminal justice matters, such as criminal profiling and evaluating the mental state of individuals in legal cases.
Sports Psychology:
Sports psychologists work with athletes to enhance performance, manage stress, and improve motivation and teamwork.
Environmental Psychology:
This field explores the interaction between individuals and their physical environment, looking at how it influences behavior and well-being.
Neuropsychology:
Neuropsychologists study the relationship between brain function and behavior, often working with individuals who have brain injuries or neurological disorders.
Positive Psychology:
Positive psychologists focus on promoting human strengths, well-being, and happiness, rather than just addressing mental illness.
Scope of Psychology in Nursing:
Psychology plays an important role in nursing, especially because it helps caregivers better understand their patients' concerns. Physical trauma often has a psychological impact, making mental health skills very important in nursing. For this reason, psychology has an important place in nursing. By understanding the feelings of patients, nurses will be able to communicate with them better and ask about their pain and mental disorders, if any. Nursing psychology also includes exercise, therapy, etc. It helps provide patients with the best solutions for post-injury treatment.
Scope of Psychology in India:
Jobs Scope of Psychology in India is increasing and many students are becoming psychologists, eight counselors, psychiatrists etc. He chooses this department to explore careers. The average annual salary of a psychologist in India ranges from 2 Lakh to 3 Lakh. According to Payscale, a psychologist with 1-4 years of experience earns around INR 317,617.
CONCLUSION:
The scope of psychology is continually expanding as researchers delve deeper into understanding the human mind and behavior. It’s applied in diverse domains, including therapy, education, marketing and policy development, to address a wide range.
